0x5 stone (also known as dusty stone, crushed stone 0-5 mm) is a type of stone with a size from 0 mm to 5 mm. This is a by-product in the process of crushing stone or screened from larger stones.
This type of stone is often used as a small aggregate in asphalt concrete, helping to fill the voids between large aggregates, creating a solid density for the asphalt concrete mixture.
Characteristics of 0x5 stone
- Small grain size: from 0 mm to 5 mm.
- High dust content, helps increase adhesion to asphalt.
- High hardness, limits abrasion when bearing loads.
- Angular shape, helps bond better with large aggregates.
- Color: Gray, black (depending on the type of parent stone: granite, basalt, limestone…).
